Do I have to pay to use this?

Your tree is free and unlimited — coverage never limits who you can map, only whose voice notes, story photos and dates of passing or marriage you can add.

Mapping your family costs nothing: every relative, every side, every branch. So does each person's profile photo, date of birth, birthplace and where they live now. Coverage is a separate, optional layer. When you cover a relative, you open room for their voice notes, story photos and dates of passing or marriage — the living detail around a person, not the person themselves.

Covered places are not consumed permanently: release someone from their card on the tree and that place moves. And buying more later is extending the plan you already hold, not starting over — a top-up adds more relatives to the same plan.
