The link is checked first — it must be unused and unexpired — and then you confirm your own details before anything joins. You enter your lineage the same way anyone does, and only then does the invite complete and your card bind to the family.

Nothing merges silently and nothing is decided for you: you see your details, you confirm them, and then you are in.
